October is National Co-op Month – a time dedicated to recognizing the value that cooperatives bring to farmers, ranchers and their rural communities. Andrew Schafer, a Washington farmer and member of the CHS SunBasin Growers producer board, describes how being involved with his cooperative has helped his operation.
As America’s largest farmer-owned cooperative, the cooperative model and the strength it brings to local communities is the backbone of CHS. Every October, that model is celebrated as part of National Co-op Month, which aims to spread awareness about the benefits of being part of the cooperative system and the important role cooperatives play in their communities.

The CHS Foundation, funded by charitable gifts from CHS Inc., announced it has awarded more than $440,000 in cooperative education grants to projects that will help students learn about the cooperative business model and what makes cooperatives unique.
